Existing projects

There are currently seven Millennium Communities throughout England, each demonstrating commercially viable approaches to tackling a varied range of economic, physical and social constraints.

  • Allerton Bywater, near Leeds: consisting of 520 homes, commercial space and community uses. Infrastructure work for the residential and commercial development has started, and the construction of new homes will start in autumn 2004.
  • New Islington, Manchester: comprising 1,450 homes, new offices and facilities including shops and restaurants. Infrastructure works on the canal have commenced linking the existing two canals and housing construction will commence in summer 2004.
  • East Ketley, Telford: consisting of up to 800 homes, a primary school, a secondary school and community and health facilities. Housing construction will commence in 2005.
