An Urban Folk Festival For Urban Folk

New Islington Urban Folk Festival is back for 2008!

On Saturday the 6th of September, from 2pm - 8pm, New Islington will be turned into a playground for Urban Folk. We’ll be mixing up new urban and traditional folk artforms and getting creative in Manchester’s new community.

The Urban Folk main stage, Gulliver’s Boombox, the Unity Radio Bus (complete with soundsytem and dancefloor) and Spectangular – a whole new take on cinema – will transform Old Mill Street into an audio visual wonderland. We’ll have an exclusive performance of a brand new collaboration between folk music’s finest, The Boat Band and Manchester’s own Rhythm n Grime. It will also be where you can also enjoy the day’s very fine range of food and drink, including bbq, real ale and specially blended urban folk cocktails.

Over on the Cotton Field, Manchester’s beautiful urban park set around the new canal, we’re getting arty and crafty with Sketch City, Kings Arms Knitting Club, ArtYarn and Knot Krazy (for story telling and all things canal).

Sketch City are gathering together the finest of their artists and pimping up barges… the ladies of the Kings Arms Knitting Club will be leading an interactive knit-a-thon, ArtYarn are Yarn Bombing the place right up (that’s graffiti with knitting, don’t you know)…

Check our New Islington Festival Facebook group or MySpace page for the full line up and updates!
